[Two-step validation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-factor_authentication) (also known as two-factor authentication) allows you to add an extra layer of security to your account to protect it in case your password is hacked.

Google doesn't give you a choice, it will be **mandatory starting November 9, 2021**.

You might as well set it up right away, [follow the guide](https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185839), rest assured it's very simple.


We can only regret that Google does not offer the option to use the [DUO authenticator](https://duo.com).
